Dialectical Behavioral Approach

This is a type of cognitive behavioral technique which tries to identify and change negative thinking patterns while trying to create positive change and acceptance. Our clinicians use mindfulness as a core technique. Much of DBT is derived from meditative practice.

DBT can be divided into three to four treatment phases. In phase one, the therapist’s goal is to reduce the stress. People describe themselves as being out of control when they begin phase one. The therapist’s goal is to move each client from feeling out of control to being in control. Phase two helps the client to move from being in control, but still suffering, to starting to experience some of the trauma they have blocked in their lives. In phase three, the therapist and client define goals, and work toward finding peace and happiness in the client’s life. Phase four reinforces the other phases and works towards more spirituality and peace for the individual.
