Play Therapy Approach

Our clinicians will use this technique with children between the ages of 5-11, but that can vary based on their education and cognitive abilities. Play therapy provides a way for children to express their experiences and feelings in a non-threatening environment, creating a setting for intervention and healing along the way.

Play therapy helps children verbalize their feelings and thoughts in a way that is familiar to them. It helps children feel secure, and fosters a sense of control. During play therapy, a child projects their feelings onto toys, and acts out the trauma. The child may not be able to express these feelings through traditional therapy, either due to their young age or negative experiences. Several techniques are used during play therapy, such as role play, art therapy, games, and dolls/puppet play.
